Judith Hill teaches that your Sun sign marks the zone of the body where your “vital force” is lodged — Aries the head, Leo the heart, Pisces the feet — and that each sign has a syndrome of strengths and weak points, reaching to the sign opposite and the signs it cannot “see”. Her zodiac man is the ancient one, much enlarged with organs and functions of her own; it rests on decades of practice, is untested in trials, and the largest study of Sun signs and illness, of 10.7 million people, found no link that held. Read it as a map for paying attention, never as a diagnosis: tiredness, sleepiness and blood pressure need a doctor whatever your sign.

Twelve zones of the body

Judith Hill has been fascinated by how astrology touches the body since she was 14, and she starts where the ancients did: the twelve signs match twelve horizontal zones of the body, from Aries at the head to Pisces at the feet. In a class on her own drawing of zodiac man — the Renaissance versions, she says, “never showed the back and they left out a lot” — she walks down the body sign by sign. Aries has the head, eyes and upper teeth; Taurus the throat, neck and ears; Gemini the shoulders, arms and hands; Cancer the breast, ribs and stomach; Leo the heart and the back behind it; Virgo the upper intestines. Libra rules the lower back and kidneys and, for her, every balance in the body — salt, fluid, acid and alkaline; Scorpio all excretion; Sagittarius the hips and thighs; Capricorn the knees, bones and skin; Aquarius the lower legs, the circulation and the oxygen in the blood; Pisces the feet and the lymph.
