Materia medica

Remedies, read on three levels

Herbs, minerals, foods, movement and inner therapies — each read through the chart that governs it, the alchemy that makes it work, and a plain-language explanation of why. A living library, deepened remedy by remedy.

The pattern — medical astrology

In medical astrology the planet is the force at work and the sign is the place in the body. Each remedy is mapped to the planets and signs it answers, so your chart can point to what your constitution actually calls for.

The medicine — alchemy & herbalism

Every plant works on body, soul and spirit through its three principles — Salt, Sulfur and Mercury — its energetics (warming/cooling, drying/moistening), its taste and the tissue states it corrects, with the doctrine of signatures reading its living form.

✎︎

The clarity — first principles

Every remedy opens with a plain-language 'in essence' and a single memorable analogy. If it can't be explained simply, it isn't yet understood — so we explain it simply first, then go deep.

The 12 Biochemic Tissue Salts

In the 1870s Dr Wilhelm Schüssler identified twelve mineral "cell salts" the body needs for healthy cellular metabolism — and observed that a shortfall in any one lets that tissue fall out of balance. Rather than fighting illness, tissue salts simply resupply the mineral the cells are missing. They are traditionally taken by dissolving a tablet slowly in the mouth. In 1906 Dr George W. Carey added an esoteric layer, matching one salt to each sign of the zodiac — quoted here as philosophy and cultural history, not medical advice.

Good to know

  • Tablets are traditionally dissolved slowly in the mouth rather than swallowed whole.
  • Mag Phos acts faster for cramps and colic when dissolved in hot water; for infants, crush and rub onto the gums.
  • Silica: those on medication to prevent implant or organ rejection are usually advised to use a combination of the other eleven salts instead.
  • Traditionally considered gentle enough for the whole family — infants, the elderly and animals — given the small, incrementally diluted doses involved.
